Ignition limits of short-term overloaded electric wires in microgravity

چکیده
Ignition phenomena of electric wires carrying short-term excess electric currents were investigated in microgravity with experiments and calculations. Microgravity experiments were conducted in 100 m and 50 m drop towers and calculations were carried out with a one dimensional cylindrical coordinate system. The experimental results showed that the limiting oxygen concentration (LOC) under a given electric current was much lower in microgravity than that in normal gravity except for extremely large electric current overload cases. According to the calculations, the supplied electric current, the Joule energy supplied to the wire, determined the amount of pyrolysis gas from the insulation and the resulting thickness of the gaseous fuel layer around the sample in gas phase increased. The increased fuel layer thickness resulted in a longer ignition delay, which leads to lower LOC. The changes in the estimated LOC changed as a function of supplied energy and agreed well with the experimental results. Further, the minimum ignition energy causing ignition (ignition limit) is nearly constant under a constant oxygen concentration, which supports experimental findings in previous research. 2012 The Combustion Institute. Short-term Chelating Efficacy of Deferoxamine in Iron Overloaded Rat Hepatocytes
Abstract Background: Iron overload is a clinical consequence of repeated blood transfusions and causes significant organ damage, morbidity, and mortality in the absence of proper treatment. The primary targets of Iron chelators used for treating transfusional Iron overload are the prevention of Iron ingress into tissues and its intracellular scavenging. The present study was aimed at elucid...
متن کاملQuenching Combustible Dust Mixtures Using Electric Particulate Suspensions (eps): a New Testing Method for Microgravity
The Electric Particulate Suspension (EPS) is a combustion ignition system being developed at Iowa State University for evaluating quenching effects of powders in microgravity (quenching distance, ignition energy, flammability limits). Because of the high cloud uniformity possible and its simplicity, the EPS method has potential for ‘benchmark’ design of quenching flames that would provide NASA ...
متن کاملShort term electric load prediction based on deep neural network and wavelet transform and input selection
Electricity demand forecasting is one of the most important factors in the planning, design, and operation of competitive electrical systems. However, most of the load forecasting methods are not accurate. Therefore, in order to increase the accuracy of the short-term electrical load forecast, this paper proposes a hybrid method for predicting electric load based on a deep neural network with a...

Review and classification of electric load forecasting (LF) techniques based on artificial neuralnetworks (ANN) is presented. A basic ANNs architectures used in LF reviewed. A wide range of ANNoriented applications for forecasting are given in the literature. These are classified into five groups:(1) ANNs in short-term LF, (2) ANNs in mid-term LF, (3) ANNs in long-term LF, (4) Hybrid ANNs inLF,...
متن کاملBurning Velocities and Flammability Limits of Premixed Methane/Air/Diluent Flames in Microgravity
Laminar burning velocities and flammability limits of premixed methane/air flames in the presence of various inert gases including helium, argon, nitrogen and carbon dioxide were investigated by combined use of microgravity experiments and computations. The experiments used a short-drop free-fall laboratory facility that can eliminate the effect of buoyancy on flames and therefore enable accura...
